An authentic small scale festival with a brilliant wrap around of great traditional music featuring players like:

 

Conor (box) & Maire Keane (flute) - the great Co. Clare box player who has a number of fine albums under his belt will be joined by his wife Maire Kane, a brilliant flute player also from Co. Clare.

 

Sean Tyrell (vocals/mando, chello) - Galway singer Sean Tyrell who also resides in Co. Clare.  Sean is a legendary figure and one of Ireland’s finest singers and has a raft of great albums to his credit.

 

Yvonne & Liz Kane (fiddle) - local Conamara talent will feature the highly acclaimed fiddling sisters 'The Kane Sisters' who’s first album 'The Well Tempered Bow' received both local and international acclaim.  Yvonne & Liz as well as being gifted players are also outstanding music teachers and will be teaching at the Sea Week Workshops on Saturday 18th Oct.

 

Johnny Connolly (melodeon) & Marcus Hernon (flute) - also from Conamara is the wonderful Johnny Connolly, probably the finest melodeon player in the country, and he will be joined by another great Conamara musician, flute player - Marcus Hernon.  Marcus's two sons who are also great players and dancers will be joining in the action

 

Frank Custy (banjo) - one of Irelands most famous trad music teachers with a glorious list of past pupils including Sharon Shannon, Tola Custy, Noel Hill etc. etc.   Frank will teach in the music workshops on Saturday Oct 18th.

 

Michelle Mulcahy - multi instrumentalist.  Michelle is a wonderfully gifted player and teacher and a member of one of Irelands most famous trad families. She will be teaching concertina at the Sea Week workshops on Saturday Oct 18th.

 

The Cunningham family  - The Cunningham family are amongst the very best of the young sean nos dancers to be seen in Conamara, the Cunninghams have appeared regularly on TV and have toured abroad to much acclaim. 

 

Emma O'Sullivan - comes from a famous local traditional family and is a wonderful sean nos dancer and teacher and will be appearing at the gigs over both weekends.

 

plus a mighty scatter of local players of all ages. 

The week will also feature the best of sean nos dancing with the

Cunningham family and Emma O'Sullivan. 

 

Weekend one will feature music workshops with Liz & Yvonne Kane, Frank Custy and Michelle Mulcahy.

 

Sea Week obviously features great music, but to reinforce its basic philosophy which is to provide a space for expression, it will have a wonderful art exhibition which opens in the Connemara National Park on Friday 17th Oct featuring the work of award winning Conamara painter David Keane.  It will also have a major Book Fair for children and adults in the Ellis Hall as well as movies for children in the National Park. 

A Chess Night for young chess players under 12s and under 14s, and a soccer tournament for primary schools as well as the arts for adults will also feature.  Throughout the week the Sea Week will have a number of artists and environmentalists visiting schools and working on marine projects with the children.  The team will include artist/naturalist - Gordon Darcy; painter - Pam Berry who will be joined by a number of other well known experts. 

 

The weekend of the 25th, 26th and 27th will feature the Conamara Sea Week Conference whose theme this year is 'The Marine - an area still largely unknown'.  Speakers at the conference will include Dr. Simon Berrow - a founder member of the Irish Whale & Dolphin Group, and an international expert on cetaceans.  Michael Gibbons - Conamara born Archaeologist; Poet Mary O'Malley; Professor Tom Collins Maynooth and a number of other speakers to be confirmed shortly.
