Dr. Simon Berrow Dr. Simon Berrow has been working on whales and dolphins in Ireland since 1989 and is co-ordinator of the Irish Whale & Dolphin Group. He has considerable knowledge on the conservation issues facing Ireland and works towards assisting the Irish government fulfil its obligations.
Title of talk: ‘Current Whale and Dolphin research in Ireland’.
Connie Kelleher Connie Kelleher is an underwater archaeologist with the State Underwater Archaeology Unit. She has a masters degree in Maritime Archaeology from University College Cork and is currently undertaking a doctoral thesis in Trinity College Dublin on the topic of the History and Archaeology of Piracy in West Cork in the early 17th Century. She has undertaken surveys and excavations on a number of wreck sites.
Title of talk: ‘Beneath Irish Waters – The work of the State Underwater Archaeology Unit’.
Dermot Diamond Prof. Dermot Diamond is currently director of the National Centre for Sensor Research at DCU and a Principal Investigator with CLARITY, a major research initiative in the area of wireless sensor networks funded by Science Foundation Ireland. For good measure he is a mighty fiddler. Title of talk: ‘A Vision for the Sensed World’

Michael Gibbons Michael Gibbons has twenty five years of experience as an archaeologist and recently completed a five year term as a member of the Archaeology Committee of the Heritage Council. He has worked with the Department of Antiquities in Jerusalem and for the Museum of London City Excavation Programme. His most recent book ‘ Connemara’: Visions of lar Chonnacht and his current research interests include the archaeology of the interidal zone and the pilgrimage tradition in Ireland from the Skelligs to Croagh Patrick.
Title of talk: ‘From Ambergris to Purpura: New Research into the Archaeology and History of the Galway and Mayo Coasts’.
Tom Collins Prof. Tom Collins professor of Education in Maynooth College is a thoughtful reflective speaker who will have some interesting and provocative things to say on this topic.
Title of talk: ‘When is an Island not an Island’.
Eoin Sweeney Eoin Sweeney is currently with the Ocean Energy Development Unit in Sustainable Energy Ireland. Has previously done pioneering work in the Marine Institute on ocean energy and advanced technology stratagies.

Mary O’Malley Conamara born award winning poet. Mary has produced a significant body of work and has five books published. Mary’s latest collection is A Perfect V. A member of Aosdána.
Deirdre Herbert Singer/actress and a regular guest at our various festivals in Letterfrack. Deirdre’s fine singing can be heard on the album ‘Between the Jigs and Reels’. A consummate performer.
Conor Keane A Co. Clare box player and one of the finest trad players in the country. Has a number of albums under his belt – Cooley’s House, Oidhreacht and Joao de Deus. He has also played with Arcady and Four Men and a Dog. As well as being a great player he is also a fine composer.
